Item groups

The categories your item catalogue is organised into — "Consulting," "Hardware," whatever divisions make sense for what you sell.

When you would use this: to keep a long catalogue navigable, and to filter the Items screen down to one part of it.

Adding or renaming a group: give it a name. Renaming one changes what every item already filed under it shows, in one action — there is no separate step to update each item.

What happens next: a group with items in it cannot simply vanish — remove or reassign its items first, or the product tells you why it will not let you delete it.

A narrower view: viewing groups needs the same permission as viewing the item catalogue; changing them needs the same further permission that managing items itself does.

When it refuses: told you cannot manage groups, you can see them but not change them — ask an Owner or Admin.
