Customer groups

Small, deliberate, shared lists of customers — not a tag, and not automatic: a customer is in a group because somebody put them there.

When you would use this: filtering any customer list down to a group you care about — your key accounts, a region, anyone on a particular arrangement — faster than rebuilding the same filter every time.

Creating or renaming a group: give it a name from this screen. Putting a customer into one, or taking them out, is done from the customer's own record, not from here — this screen manages the list of groups, not their membership.

Filtering by one: any customer list offers your groups as a filter once they exist, the same way it offers any other filter.

A narrower view: viewing the groups needs the same permission as viewing customers at all; creating or renaming a group needs the further capability to write settings, so a colleague who works with customers daily may not be able to define new groups.

When it refuses: "Customer groups are not available to your role" means you cannot see customers at all — ask an Owner or Admin. The manager showing but its add/rename controls absent means you can see the groups but not shape them.
