Settings

The values behind everything else: your firm's name, the address and tax details printed on a document, locale and timezone, how outgoing mail is dressed, and what a generated PDF looks like.

When you would use this: once, when you set the business up, and again whenever one of those facts changes — you move office, your VAT number changes, you want documents dated the American way.

How it is organised: one screen, a list of groups down the left, a form on the right — General, Company, Localisation, Email, PDF here, plus Finance, Invoices, Credit notes and the rest of what other parts of the product configure (their own manual articles cover those). Search finds a setting by name from any group without you knowing which one it lives in.

General: the system name printed wherever the product needs to say who this is, a phone number, and the hour of day, in your own timezone, after which nightly billing and reminders may run.

Company: the issuer block — legal name (if different from the system name), address, tax details, bank details, a signature image — printed on every invoice, estimate and credit note you send.

Localisation: locale, timezone, which day the week starts on, and the clock — 12-hour, 24-hour, or whatever your locale normally uses (used today only in this screen's own preview; no document, email or other screen reads it yet).

Email: the header and footer shown on outgoing mail, and whether your logo appears in it. Sender name, sender address and the SMTP connection itself are set from this same screen but saved and validated separately — sending a real test message is how you know they are right, not the save button.

A narrower view: everyone who can read settings sees every group; editing a group needs that group's own further permission (most need the general one to write settings; Finance, Invoices, Credit notes, Estimates, Proposals, Subscriptions and Payment gateways need a finance-specific one on top, so a colleague who can change the header cannot necessarily change your base currency).

When it refuses: a field greyed out, not missing, means you can see this group but not save it — ask an Owner or Admin. GDPR and Your preferences are not reached from this list — see their own articles.
